No Bad Press?

Is all press good press in American politics? Trump seems to indicate that it is.

Former US president Donald Trump cannot catch a break. The man is being showered with lawsuits and odds are that he might be found guilty on at least one count if only because of how many laws he has allegedly broken. I’ve seen some discussion regarding the extent to which Trump’s legal issues hampers his prospects of becoming the Republican party’s candidate in the 2024 presidential election. History suggests that Trump will not be hindered by lawsuits, in fact it suggests that Trump’s chances are increased by lawsuits.

Both of Trump’s previous presidential candidacies were marred by controversies of varying intensities, and he will surely outdo himself in his current bid for the White House in the controversy department. That is important seeing as how much media coverage Trump managed to get through his various preposterous statements. It appears that in American politics, all press is good press. Trump’s skill as a politician has always been his incredible ability to always be the topic of conversation. What has Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, or another 2024 candidate been up to this week? I bet you have no idea but you will probably have heard that Trump has been indicted. Even when he isn’t in court there is almost always something shocking and/or appalling Trump has said or done which keeps him relevant. You might think that being relevant is less important than being say a competent lawmaker or someone who the country can unite behind, but in an environment where the opponents are as uninspiring as Joe Biden it is enough to be relevant.

Will the media buzz constantly surrounding him be enough to carry Trump to the White House? We’ll have to wait and see but it is certainly a positive to be talked about. And no one is better at being the centre of attention than Trump.

If you liked this post you can read my last post about the case for pardoning Trump, or the rest of my writings here. It'd mean a lot to me if you recommended the blog to a friend or coworker. Come back next Monday for a new post!

I've always been interested in politics, economics, and the interplay between. The blog is a place for me to explore different ideas and concepts relating to economics or politics, be that national or international. The goal for the blog is to make you think; to provide new perspectives.
